ABOUT NAGPUR ::

Nagpur popularly known, as Orange capital of India is also the second capital of Maharashtra. The Gond King of Deogad, "Bakht Buland Shah" laid the city’s foundation in the year 1703. This city derived its name from the river Nag that flows through it. Nagpur was the capital of Madhya Bharat state (C.P. and Berar) after Indian independence and in 1960, the Marathi majority Vidarbha region was merged with the new state of Maharashtra.

The Nagpur District's Area is 9890 Sq. km. 

Nagpur has an area - 220 sq. km.

Nagpur is situated at 21° 06' N latitude and 79° 03' E longitude and mean altitude - 310 meters above sea level.

Nagpur's climate is dry or mildly humid for most of the year except for the rainy season.

According to the 2001 census, the population of this region is 34,36,765

Nagpur is the second cleanest and greenest city of India.

On a global scale, Nagpur is estimated to be the 114th largest city and the 143rd largest urban area in the world in 2006 in terms of population.

Nagpur is also important geographically as it lies practically at the centre of India with the country's geographical centre (Zero Mile) being situated here.

Electrified broad gauge railway track connects Nagpur to all four major metros. The length of broad gauge railwayline is 270 kms and that of narrow gauge railway line is 136 kms. Destinations connected included Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai, Kolhapur, Pune, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jammu, Amritsar, Lucknow, Varanasi, Bhubaneshwar, Trivendrum, Cochin, Gorakhpur, Visakhapatnam, Bangalore, Mangalore, Patna, Indore.

Air Routes

The Sonegaon Airport is 7.5 kilometers south of Nagpur City. It is connected to Mumbai, Calcutta, Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, Bhubaneswar, Raipur.
